Our Engagement Team invited specialists and specialist trainees to share their reasons for choosing their own specialties, the transition to specialty training and their experiences working in the private/public sector. We also explored whether there is any relation between personality types and specialties!

Our speakers' bio

Speaker #1

Hi guys, I’m Arthur. I am an unaccredited surgical registrar at Westmead Hospital. I am a typical HK boy who was born and raised in HK. After finishing HKALE (which no longer exist sosad), I started and completed my medical degree in UNSW. I did internship and resident year at Blacktown Hospital and started my unaccredited surgical training at Westmead Hospital.

Speaker #2

Dr Peggy Lam was born in Canada and raised in Hong Kong. After finishing high school in the UK, she went to Australia and completed her medical degree at the University of New South Wales in 2017. She is currently working as a rural general practitioner in Wilton, NSW.

Speaker #3

Siaw is a General Medicine and Obstetrics Medicine physician who works at Northern Health and the Mercy Hospital for Women in Heidelberg. She is passionate about delivering holistic care to patients with chronic illnesses and complex medical conditions and is often involved in the pre- and post-operative assessment and management of these patients. Siaw is also focused on providing care for women with medical conditions in pregnancy, from the time of pregnancy planning to the post-partum period. In her spare time, she enjoys teaching medical students and physician trainees and is currently undertaking the Graduate Certificate of Clinical Education with the University of Melbourne.

Dr. Darren Liew was born and raised in Singapore. He graduated from the University of Tasmania. He is currently an Emergency doctor at the Austin Hospital, Victoria. He is a passionate foodie, travel lover and guitar player.
